Jessica does sign language!

Jessica signed her first sign on Thursday, she signed ‘drink’ to me at breakfast and was really excited when I understood and gave her cup to her.  I have been trying to teach her a few simple words; drink, food, I love you.  Our sign for drink is a cuped hand that we move back and forth as if you were having a drink, it was really cute when she did it!

Jessica has teeth

From 26-Mar-06 Jessica began to have teeth surface. She now has three little stubbs at the top and front of her mouth. She likes stand for a long time holding onto things and can walk if we hold her hands. She has not worked out how to crawl yet.

Growing Up in Scotland Survey

Today Jess and I took part in a long term survey, which will be following Jess’ development over the next five years and beyond.   It was was good and Jessica was very well behaved even though she was very interested in getting her hands on the interviewer’s laptop!!

Claire began labour at 5:30am 18th-May-05 and was about 2cm dilated, the next day around 2am Claire was exhausted and opted for an epidural after trying a birth pool, tens machine, gas & air and birth ball. It made all the difference in the world, hope was restored. Just after 10 am on the 19th of May the baby was getting distressed and forceps were needed to deliver Jessica. Jessica was born at 10:28am and was 8lbs7, 54cm long.

Jessica being weighed  She is so cute

Jessica at 8lb7 (Claire is getting stitched up) Jessica recovering

The story just begins, after Claire got stiches and had some toast, the delivering doctor informed us that one of the stiching needles was missing. Dad was left with hungry baby Jessica for several hours while claire was x-rayed and taken to theatre. Claire was taken to the High Dependancy Unit (HDU) to recover, after moving into a ward, that night she was moved back to HDU as she was anemic, with low blood pressure, a very high pulse and an infection, there she was given a blood transfusion (2 units). The next day she moved back to the post labour ward. For the next few days Claire has been recovering slowly, with David nearly always at her side.

Jessica and Mummy Claire  Together we stand

Claire and Jessica in the post labour ward   What a team

We have been very lucky to have Norine (Davids mum) and Roger and Mary (Claires parents) look after us. Grandparents are the best.

Jessica is hungry and can feed for hours, (not very comfortable for Claire) so she now likes to suck her dads little finger. Claire and Jessica arrived home on 24-May-05. Jessica smiled for the first time that night.
